Missoula suspect convicted in 2019 back to back road rage shootings sentenced

MISSOULA – Following an emotional two-day trial the man convicted of back to back shootings, including a fatal road rage incident, was sentenced in a Missoula courtroom Wednesday afternoon. A judge ordered Johnathan Bertsch to serve four life sentences without the possibility of parole for killing Shelley Hays and Julie Blanchard and seriously injuring two others, including a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper. The first shooting happened along Expressway Boulevard in Missoula. Several hours later, Bertsch ambushed a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper during a traffic stop along US Highway 93 in Evaro.
