Back to back drug overdoses have Helena authorities on high alert

A string of drug overdoses in the Helena area within 48 hours has Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton and St. Peter’s Health on high alert. St. Peter’s staff and the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office (LCCSO) say they believe the heroin used by the patients had been laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine.

MEANWHILE…

HELENA, Mont. – Officers with the Helena Police Department have administered Narcan to four people in roughly the last two days. HPD said in an email Wednesday that this is unprecedented, and a huge safety concern for the community.

AND…

HELENA, Mont. – Emergency medical providers in Helena treated at least nine people facing life-threatening drug overdoses during a 48-hour period, according to a press statement from the hospital.
