Drivers should expect minor delays during a road expansion project east of East Helena. In early March, weather permitting, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will begin reconstructing approximately four miles of US 287/US 12, aimed at improving increased traffic congestion by adding two additional travel lanes in each direction between Helena and Townsend, where officials say the Highway 287 corridor is experiencing tremendous growth.

Residents are encouraged to attend two virtual public open houses held via Zoom on March 10 to learn more about the upcoming construction. The meetings will include a question-and-answer session. Registration is required for open house attendance.
