More Montana livestock have been infected with the bird flu

GREAT FALLS – More Montana livestock have been infected with the bird flu. The Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) confirmed the Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a Pondera County flock, bringing the number of flocks infected to eight. HPAI has also been detected in Judith Basin, Cascade, Toole, Glacier, Missoula, Fergus, and Gallatin counties. The Montana Department of Livestock is conducting an epidemiological investigation and will be identifying other poultry producers in the area to conduct disease surveillance. The HPAI infections have been linked to the seasonal migrations of wild birds, according to a news release Monday [May 2].
