Reports have been released on the levels of lead in drinking water at Montana schools. A new state rule that took effect in 2020 gave schools a Dec. 31, 2021 deadline. As of April 2022, more than half of the 590 K-12 schools in Montana have completed testing. The Helena School District, started collecting water samples last summer. Of the more than 11,000 fixtures tested so far in Montana schools, just over a quarter had higher than allowable state lead limits.
