Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge is dealing with a staffing shortage. At the beginning of this year the Department of Corrections told legislators the Montana State Prison lacked 59 of the 328 correctional officers needed and that number has increased, causing the prison to shut down one of its units last week for the first time in 30 years. The state prison, outside of Deer Lodge, is a 1,600 person men’s prison.
