Gun sales in the state declined this year

Gun sales in the state declined this year. In Montana, an estimated 81,100 guns were sold from January through July 2022 based on FBI background check data. That’s equal to about 76.4 firearm sales for every 1,000 people, the eighth highest gun sale rate among states. In 2021 during the same time period, an estimated 95,300 guns were sold in the state, marking a 14.9% drop in 2022.
