Wet spring did very little to reduce risk of wildfires this year

MISSOULA – The wet spring a few months back that brought rain and even snow showers did very little to reduce the risk from wildfires this year. That’s according to experts who said the heatwave actually shows the forest is as dry now as it was in the last big fire year of 2017. A lot of that is due to the hottest consecutive days Missoula has seen in 15 years, and officials noted, the break we got from the extended moisture in May and June has vanished. Residents are being reminded to be smart while recreationing outdoors to help reduce the number of human caused fires.
