A Republican candidate for House District 82 in Helena is under scrutiny for alleged unethical financial practices.
The Montana Commissioner of Political Practices found this week that Alden Tonkay tried to pay vendors with bad checks and misreported more than $2,000 of his debts as expenditures. The matter has been referred to the Lewis and Clark County attorney for possible prosecution. Tonkay is challenging Democratic Rep. Mary Caferro, whom he filed a complaint against alleging she paid – but failed to report – a $15 candidate filing fee.
