BILLINGS – Tax cuts for the wealthiest Montanans is who Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte’s $1 billion tax cut proposal would benefit, Democratic lawmakers criticized. Montana has a budget surplus of over $1 billion in federal dollars from the American Rescue COVID relief fund, and under the Republican ‘trickle-down’ plan millionaires will get thousands of dollars in tax cuts, while the working poor will receive just a few dollars if any, according to the Montana Budget and Policy Center director of budget and research. The proposal will be considered by the Republican majority legislature, which kicks off Jan. 2, 2023.
