2023 will be busier than usual for the Jefferson County Highway Department.

2023 will be busier than usual for the Jefferson County Highway Department. Jefferson County plans to invest $5 million next year in various highway improvements, with about $3 million from the county’s normal budget process, while a yet-to make-approved bundle of projects is funded by the county’s $21 million total American Rescue Plan Act money, to the tune of about $1.9 million. The work they’re expecting to do doubles what they did in 2021, with officials saying the county will spend nearly $5 million on road and bridge maintenance in 2023. This includes rebuilding roads, repairing bridges, fixing potholes, maintaining culverts, and other smaller projects.
