WASHINGTON (AP) – Legislation to avert what could have been an economically ruinous freight rail strike won final approval in Congress on Thursday. The Senate passed a bill approving a settlement reached in September that had been rejected, creating the possibility of a strike beginning Dec. 9. Union groups were unhappy with the final result, after Republicans blocked paid sick leave. But, the measure now goes to President Biden’s desk to be signed, averting a strike that could’ve cost 750,000 jobs, impacting truckers in Montana as well.
