Montana families struggling to make ends meet could see state child tax credit in their future

Montana families struggling to make ends meet could see a state child tax credit in their future. Republicans in
Congress took away the federal benefit in 2022, but a plan by the Gianforte administration would offer $1,200 per child in tax credit to provide families with some much-needed financial support. The plan would be paid for by the state’s budget surplus created from unused federal ARPA funds. The 2023 legislative session will start Jan. 2.
