Potential settlement in paly with W.R. Grace & Co.’s case for Libby Asbestos Superfund Site

HELENA – After years of negotiation a potential settlement is in paly with W.R. Grace & Co.’s case for the Libby Asbestos Superfund Site in Lincoln County. In a news release Tuesday [Jan. 10] it was announced that the proposed agreement would require W.R. Grace to pay $18.5 million to restore, replace, or rehabilitate injured natural resources in the Lincoln County area, caused by the release of asbestos from 1963 until Grace closed the mine in 1990. The State of Montana is accepting comments on the proposed settlement until February 13, 2023.
