A former Carroll College student charged in a 2021 DUI crash that killed his friend pleaded guilty. Hunter Nicely entered his plea in Lewis and Clark County via Zoom during a hearing Thursday on vehicular homicide charges stemming from a rollover crash at Cedar Street and I-15 in Helena, in which his friend died and another Carroll student was injured. He will be sentenced on March 30 and could face a maximum of 30 years in prison, according to state code.
MEANWHILE…
A judge is considering a request to release information related to the case after the family of the woman killed in the crash claimed the bar served Nicely even though he was not of legal drinking age. Attorneys for the owners of the Sapphire Bar, the state and for the family of Bridget Marie Kirby, 20, who died in the crash, appeared Thursday in Lewis and Clark County District Court to debate the sharing of information and the judge said she would review the statute.
