Dozens of Montana inmates could be sent to out of state for profit prison

Montana lawmakers gave initial approval this week to a proposal that could relocate dozens of inmates to a private prison facility in Arizona. An amendment to the state budget approved by the House Appropriations Committee Tuesday would send 120 state inmates to the for profit prison, at a rate of $90 per inmate per day over the next two years, in response to overcrowding in the state prison near Deer Lodge. The proposal still has several steps before it’s finalized.
