Public education will suffer if Republican pushed education reform bills pass, critics say

BILLINGS – Critics of Republican pushed education reform bills in the state are voicing concern. The Montana Legislature is considering allowing both local and virtual for-profit charter schools, but opponenets say they’ll be paid for by taking away federal funding meant for public schools, specifically in lower income areas. A coalition of public school groups is opposing HB562, which states money would come from Montana’s public schools, as well as well tax hikes to pay for charter schools.
