Hundreds show up at Capitol to support ‘silenced’ transgender Missoula representative

HELENA – Hundreds of demonstrators rallied on the front steps of the Capitol Monday to support a transgender Missoula representative banned from speaking. Several people were hauled away in handcuffs for protesting the decision by the Republican House Speaker not to recognize Rep. Zooey Zephyr, a Missoula Democrat, supporters say was silenced after she criticized a Republican pushed bill criminalizing healthcare for transgender youth. The debated bill passed a preliminary vote, 60-39.
