Bozeman man plunges 86 feet to his death while diving at Canyon Ferry

Scuba diving on Canyon Ferry Reservoir resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Bozeman man. According to a press release Monday from the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a diver in distress call Saturday near Cemetery Island and learned two people were trying to retrieve a vehicle that broke through the ice last winter, when the victim, William Dreyer, fell about 86 feet below water. He died at the scene. Sheriff Dutton said the case remains under investigation.
