The Montana Jewish Project wants to know why the Republican Speaker of the House denied Rep. Ed Stafman, a rabbi, the opportunity to lead prayer. The organization made the request in a recent [March 4] letter, citing “a 36 % increase in antisemitic attacks across Montana in 2022 by white christian supremacist groups, adding the prayers offered all session “were christian.” Rep. Stafman said when he’s praying in a public space with people of different faiths, he tries to make sure his prayer “works for everybody,” not just Christians.
