Trial of Birdseye man accused in 2011 death of neighbor set to begin June 1

The trial of Leon Michael Ford, the man accused in the death of his neighbor in 2011, is set to begin June 1. It was 12 years ago that John Michael Crites, 48, of Birdseye, was fatally shot in the head, in what authorities have described as a neighborhood dispute over land access, turned deadly. Two garbage bags full of bones identified as his were found in 2011 and in 2012. The trial is expected to take 30 days. Jury selection begins May 30, court officials said.
