FWP reminds everyone that Montana is bear country after a hunter shot and killed a grizzly bear in self-defense in the Madison Range southeast of Ennis last week, according to a press release from Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The grizzly bear reportedly charged the hunter in a remote area in the backcountry last week [June 5]. He was not injured. The investigation is ongoing, the press release states, which notes, grizzly bear populations continue to become more widespread in Montana, increasing the likelihood of bear encounters for residents and recreationists in more places each year.
