Name of Idaho man who drowned while kayaking in NW Montana released

LIBBY – The name of an Idaho man who drowned during a Sunday kayaking trip in northwest Montana has been released. Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short says officers responded to an SOS alert from a GPS device in the Yaak River area near Troy and were informed that the 38-year-old man who sent the message was ok. Then moments later, someone called 911 to report a 50 year old man fell out of his kayak, and slipped underwater. Crews found Steven Koning’s body a few hours later floating in the Kootenai River near the Idaho-Montana state line, according to a news release.
