Millions of borrowers left waiting on student loan relief as legal battles continue

Millions of borrowers waiting on student loan relief will be waiting a while longer, as legal battles continue for President Joe Biden’s plan to partially forgive student loan payments. In November, federal courts ruled the Biden administration could not move forward with forgiveness, prompting an appeal of the decision and landing the case in the lap of the Supreme Court, which is now tasked with deciding whether the administration can forgive these loans without Congressional authorization.

In the meantime…

Federal student loan payments remain on pause until at least June, pending the Supreme Court’s decision which likely won’t come for several more months.
