The first 2023 sighting of a grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) was reported by a park biologist this week. According to a news release the 300+ lb grizzly was spotted Tuesday [March 7] near the remains of a bison carcass in the central-eastern part of the park. YNP reminds outdoor enthusiasts to prepare for a bear encounter, including making sure you carry bear spray and always stay in groups. The release said restrictions will begin in some bear management areas on March 10.
