March snow storm in Helena wreaked havoc on the roadways

A surprise March snow storm in Helena, just a few days ahead of spring, wreaked havoc on the roadways making for a slip and slide Wednesday morning commute. The storm dumped upwards of 5 inches of snow on the valley in about four hours, according to local spotters’ reports to the NWS, and is being blamed for multiple crashes reported in the queen city, severely hampering the Wednesday morning commute. Helena Police reported nearly two dozen vehicle accidents and at least five stranded or stuck motorists.

MEANWHILE…

Sunny skies and warmer weather forecast for Thursday could help melt snow and that has Lewis and Clark County monitoring several areas in the Helena Valley for potential flooding on some county roadways. Drivers should use caution and follow signage in areas with water on the roadway. With warm temperatures in the forecast, surface runoff will continue to affect areas of the Helena Valley.
