Caretaker accused of stealing from dying woman pleads not guilty

The caretaker of a Livingston woman accused of stealing more than $1.5 million in jewelry while she was on her death bed last year has pleaded not guilty to theft charges. John Charles Burdick is facing a jury trial this summer in the 2022 case in which prosecutors say surveillance video allegedly showed Burdick in the woman’s bedroom as she lay unconscious the morning of her death, holding some of the missing items in his hands, including diamond rings and neckalaces and gold watches, as well as shotguns valued at $20,000.
