First Navy vessel named after state since 1908 recently launched

The first Navy vessel to be named after the state since 1908 was recently launched [Wednesday] into the James River at Newport News Shipbuilding division in Virginia. The $2.6 billion USS Montana submarine is scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Navy in late 2021, a news release states. Nearly 10,000 shipbuilders, as well as suppliers from all 50 states, participated in Montana’s construction of the 7,800-ton nuclear-powered submarine since the work began in 2015.
